Good morning with excellent news.
Item no. 9 of today’s Order Paper for Parliament, shows that the prime minister will be tabling a motion to put UMNO’s Noraini (Parit Sulong) as the Chairman of PAC to replace Ronald Kiandee. This motion will likely take place on the last day of this sitting, 11th April.
This motion, if passed next week, will enable Pakatan Harapan to regain some credibility on its manifesto regarding an independent PAC. More importantly, this change of heart could signal the start of the much delayed reforms as contained in Pakatan Harapan manifesto.
On this positive development, credit must go to YB Nurul Izzah for taking her principled stand by resigning from the PAC, 2 weeks ago. I know she took a lot of criticisms from this, but it was the right thing to do.
I hope Izzah will be returning to the PAC. Her uncompromising stance on the PAC may have just woken up PH from a deep slumber. This is a small but positive win for Parliamentary reforms. My office is energised by this development, and we will continue to push for Parliamentary reforms (a project we started 8 months ago) on standing committees and full independence from the cabinet.
