Special Parliament Meeting on Wall Street Journal Report

A special meeting has been called by Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Wan Azizah, on the WSJ report in Parliament today. As Wong Chen is still in Hong Kong, his staff will be reporting from Parliament.

Opposition MPs gathered at the PKR office to find out that not only did Shahidan Kassim, Minister in the PM dept, veto the use of the Parliament meeting hall (which is now being used by PERDANA fellows instead of MPs), he has also ordered security to ban NGOs from entering Parliament.

The meeting is now taking place near Parliament entrance. Around 80 MPs and members of civil society are here.

The meeting has ended without any further disturbances. No FRU in sight, some policemen observing from a distance.

Dr Wan Azizah opened the meeting, followed by Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua on the facts of 1MDB. In the crowd were a large representation of MPs from PAS, DAP and PKR. Members of the civil society such as Dato Ambiga, Maria Chin, Dr Dzul, CheguBard, A. Samad Said and Hishamuddin Rais showed their support.

The group voiced that the Prime Minister must take a leave of absence whilst investigations are still pending as you cannot have the subject matter of investigations leading the country. It was also agreed that whistleblowers, the members of the media, must be protected during this time.

Dato Jo, Whip of PKR, adjourned the meeting with a witty “Dewan setakat ini ditangguhkan”.
